Falling Into the Fire
A Psychiatrist's Encounters with the Mind in Crisis
Christine Montross is an assistant professor of psychiatry and human behavior and codirector of the Medical Humanities and Bioethics Scholarly Concentration at Alpert Medical School. She is also a practicing inpatient psychiatrist and author of Body of Work. Her latest work, Falling Into the Fire, recounts some of the most memorable patients she encountered during her residency at Brown University-Butler Hospitals psychiatry training program. The first chapter of the book, "The Woman Who Needed a Zipper," was excerpted in the print edition of Brown Medicine, Fall 2103.
